BPTO shows increase in the number of applications in almost all the services in 2019
The BPTO has recently published the Monthly Bulletin of Industrial Property, which presents statistics obtained from the applications filed and some BPTO’s decisions in December/2019, as well as consolidated data from January to December of the same year. According to such data, the bulletin showed that there was an increase in the filing number of patent (2.8%), trademark (19.9%), industrial design (5.3%), software (21.4%) and geographical indication (128.6%) applications over the same period in 2018.
The number of filings of applications for integrated circuit topographies remained stable, while applications related to recordal of technology agreements decreased (-3.5%) when compared to the previous year.
When comparing the consolidated data between 2018 and 2019, the Bulletin also showed a significant growth in patent grants (24%) and trademark registrations (7.3%). However, said data indicated a decreasing in the software registrations (-40.6%) and industrial designs (-33%), as well as the recordal of technology agreements(-5.8%).
