Cinematographic works financed through incentive resources may be released in drive in cinemas.
The Board of Directors of the Brazilian National Film Agency (“ANCINE”) held, on July 9, that movie theaters in the drive-in modality are equal to traditional theaters for the purposes of complying with contractual and regulatory obligations. According to ANCINE, drive-ins theaters that have the characteristics of a commercial theater, if properly registered before ANCINE, are equal to conventional exhibit rooms, and can function as the first window for the release of audiovisual works financed through public resources. The measure addresses a concern of the audiovisual sector, given that traditional theaters are closed due to social distancing measures, which has prevented the release of new cinematographic works throughout the world.
