Scientists report differences in the blood plasma of COVID-19 patients.
Scientists at the Crick Institute, in the United Kingdom, and at the Charité-Universitätsmedizin, in Berlin, quickly determined, through mass spectrometry, the levels of various proteins in the blood plasma of COVID-19 patients.
According to the results, some of these proteins are linked to the severity of the disease. Using the protein signatures, scientists were able to precisely classify patients according to the coding criteria of the World Health Organization (‘WHO’) for COVID-19.
This study represents an advance that could leverage the development of biomarkers capable of reliably providing the predictability of disease progression and severity.
