House of Representatives approves Nagoya Protocol.

The draft Legislative Decree 324/20 was approved on July 8, 2020, ratifying the Nagoya Protocol in Brazil on access and benefit sharing of biodiversity genetic resources. The Bill now goes to the Senate.

The Nagoya Protocol is an international agreement that establishes rules for countries with regard to the research and development of products based on genetic resources from biodiversity, in addition to requiring a fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising from the commercialization of these products.

Any exploration by foreign companies or organizations will be subject to the express authorization of the countries that hold these resources.
