The Brazilian National Film Agency (ANCINE) has recently approved the release of the PUBLIC CALL BRDE/FSA – INTERNATIONAL CINEMA CO-PRODUCTION 2022 destined to the selection of theatrical feature films, as well as documentaries and animations made under the requirements of international co-productions.
The international co-production regime allows an audiovisual work produced with funds raised by both a Brazilian producer and a foreign producer to be recognized as a national work in both countries. For that purposes, the project must be approved by the competent government agencies in Brazil and in the other country.
Currently, Brazil is a signatory party to international co-production agreements with several countries such as Germany, Portugal, Argentina, Italy, and the United Kingdom. This type of agreement facilitates the realization of international co-production as it simplifies the approval criteria and the film production, making the partnership between the producers more attractive.
According to the resolution, the financial availability of the FSA (Audiovisual Sectoral Fund) for investments and remuneration of financial agents was met. The total amount of R$ 40,000,000.00 (forty million Reais) will be allocated to the selected projects. At least 40% will be destined to audiovisual projects of independent producers based in the North, Northeast, and Midwest regions and at least 10% to film projects of independent producers located in the South or in the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo.
The applications are expected to be submitted as from April 18 to June 17, 2022. The public notice is available on the FSA and BRDE websites.
