In 2018, the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BPTO) granted 191,813 trademark registrations. In comparison with the previous year, when 123,362 registrations were granted, the increase was of 55.5%.
Regarding the BPTO’s backlog, there was a significant reduction of 46.6%, dropping from 358,776 to 191,535 applications awaiting for a decision in December 2018.
There was also a growth of 9.8% in the number of trademark filings, from 186,103 in 2017 to 204,419 applications filed in 2018.
